Details of multi-million pound pool complex revealed

The first images and details of a water park that will be part of Derby’s new multi-million pound pool complex have been revealed.

Earlier this year the green light was given to build a much larger leisure water pool as part of the new Moorways site complex. A capital budget of £42m has been approved to deliver and complete the whole project by late 2021.

Derby City Council said the water park will have England’s first wave generating “wow ball” and the first wave rider slide of its type.

The attraction will feature two four storey flumes, as well as dual racer slides where riders can race their family and friends. For younger visitors there will be a beach area and water playground with mini slides and water jets.

Councillor Robin Wood, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “These plans have been developed with families in mind and include a number of thrills and spills to enjoy. Once built there will certainly be more ways than ever for everyone to have fun in Derby.”

The 50m pool with moving booms and floors gives the flexibility to be turned into three separate pools. There will also be a learner pool, as well as sauna and steam rooms.

The new site will include a gym and three studios. On the ground floor there will be a café.

A large multi-use area will be fitted out with a family activity to complement the range of activities that are also on offer, delivering a more extensive family experience.
