Plans for 159-flat scheme tipped for green light

How the scheme would look

Plans for a mixed-use scheme in Leicester have been tipped for approval by the City Council’s planning bosses.

SMMS Developments wants to build 159 studio flats along with a ground floor unit for either a nursery, restaurant or retail use at 96 Jarrom Street.

The site is between the campuses of the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) to the south and east, and De Montfort University (DMU) to the north. It has been used for a kitchen business, but that closed recently.

SMMS wants to demolish the building on the site and build a 159-flat scheme between five and eight storeys tall. In itial olans hasd seen an application for an 11-storey building, but that was deemed too tall.

Leicester City Council’s Planning Committee will vote on the scheme when it meets on Wednesday 23 October.
