Former building society branch to be turned into restaurant

A former building society branch is set to be changed into a restaurant and fast food takeaway – complete with roof terrace.

A company called Universal Real Estate has been granted permission to turn the former Derbyshire Building Society branch on East Street in Derby into a new leisure venue.

The building has been derelict since 2014. New plans for the restaurant will see 14 jobs created.

A planning statement reads: “The site is extremely well located within Derby city centre. It proposes a new commercial use for a currently vacant unit within a prominent location. Economic opportunities will be provided through the creation of employment opportunities both during construction and following completion. The construction process will also contribute to the local economy.”
