Heavy rain and flooding causing long rail delays

Heavy rain and flooding are causing chaos across East Midlands rail routes this afternoon, with long delays expected.

East Midlands Railway is unable to run services between Derby and Long Eaton due to flooding. Services on the operator’s Sheffield/London St Pancras and Matlock-Nottingham-Newark Castle are affected.

Meanwhile, heavy rain has flooded the railway at Hathern, near Loughborough and has resulted in 1 of the 4 tracks being closed between East Midlands Parkway and Loughborough. This affects services on the Lincoln/Nottingham/Leicester route. Network Rail are monitoring the floodwater levels.

All trains on the Lincoln/Nottingham/Leicester routes will be unable to call at Barrow-on-Soar (in the Leicester direction only) whilst services are diverted onto another track to bypass the flooding.

A statement from East Midlands Railway said: “We currently have no estimate for when normal working will resume on the route.”
