Nottingham law firm sold in pre-pack deal

A Nottingham law firm has been sold out of administration in a pre-pack deal.

AKHQ Limited, trading as April King Legal, has been acquired by April Legal Limited.

Led by business recovery specialists, Begbies Traynor, the sale sees the 25-strong team of solicitors and legal executives transfer to the new company, which will continue to trade as April King Legal.

Begbies says the firm, which has its headquarters in West Bridgford, struggled after a period of rapid expansion.

Paul King, director of April King Legal, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer continuity of service to our valued clients. Moving forward, our focus will be on investing in our team with ongoing training, as well as using technology to help us do things more efficiently and effectively.

“We’re excited about the future. After a long period of consultation, new rules from the Solicitors Regulatory Authority make it possible for solicitors to provide their services on a freelance basis, which gives us access to a much wider pool of talent. This provides an opportunity to grow our team in a more flexible way and one that responds directly to the needs of our client base.”

Gareth Prince, partner at Begbies Traynor, said: “We are delighted to have worked with the director to secure this successful outcome, which will see this family firm continue to provide the dedicated and personal service it has become known for. We wish them every success in capitalising on new market opportunities.”
