On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Paul Coupar-Hennessy

A Derbyshire-based PR agency which serves early-stage technology businesses has appointed a former Guardian journalist as its new creative director.

Paul Coupar-Hennessy, who worked for The Guardian in the UK and AAP in Australia, will lead the content team at Roaring Mouse Public Relations.

He has helped the Chesterfield-based firm as a consultant since 2014.

James Taylor, founder and managing director at Roaring Mouse, said: “Paul is possibly the brightest person I know, and certainly the sharpest when it comes to creating quality content that delivers for customers. His understanding of people and how to inform and inspire them will be invaluable to our work.”

Coupar-Hennessy added: “Roaring Mouse is doing great things helping early-stage technology businesses stand out and achieve their goals through PR and communication. Its commitment to working with customers that make the world of business smarter, fairer and more sustainable is admirable. I am very pleased to be contributing to that mission.”

Elsewhere, East Midlands law firm Nelsons has made another new hire – hot on the heels of Monday’s announcement of an appointment at its Derby office.

Gemma Hopper has joined Nelsons’ Nottingham office to boost its specialist Court of Protection team.

Gemma Hopper

Hopper qualified as a solicitor in 2016 with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), an executive agency to the Ministry of Justice.

She said: “I’m incredibly excited to move to a firm like Nelsons – it has a fantastic reputation for managing the affairs of vulnerable people who need more specialist support. I’m keen to expand my knowledge of providing assistance and guidance in making more complex Court of Protection applications and continue my career working alongside the team at Nelsons.

“The Court of Protection is an incredibly specialist area of law that requires a certain kind of approach. When you’re representing vulnerable people and their families it’s of paramount importance that you’re able to empathise and form a trusting relationship with them, so they can feel at ease at what can be a very challenging time in their lives.”
