EY boosts Midlands tax offering with key hires

(L-R): Craig Stobo, Linda Marston-Weston, Danny Vu and Stuart Halstead

EY has bolstered its Midlands tax offering with the appointment of Stuart Halstead as head of indirect tax and Craig Stobo and Danny Vu as directors.

Halstead has returned to the region from the Middle East, where he led EY’s Middle East indirect tax business in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

He said: “After growing up in Shrewsbury and then moving around the world with work, I’m delighted to be back home in the Midlands to lead EY’s indirect tax team at what is a very exciting period of growth for the region. As a response to the thriving business community here, we’re continuing to invest in our Midlands indirect tax team.”

New directors Stobo and Vu both bring a wealth of experience to their new roles. Stobo, who has relocated to the Midlands from Glasgow, has worked with financial services clients for over two decades. He will be focused on the region’s private middle market.

Vu joins from EY in Saudi Arabia, having previously worked for another Big Four firm in Canada. He specialises in working with multinationals who have complex supply chains on their VAT compliance.

Linda Marston-Weston, head of tax at EY in the Midlands, said: “Stuart, Craig and Danny bring with them a wealth of experience from working with international clients advising on cross border tax issues to navigating fast-paced, changing environments such as the implementation of the Making Tax Digital initiative.

“This is an exciting period of growth for our local tax practice in which we’re continuing to invest in people at all levels including our regional leadership. These appointments, in addition to James Keane who joined us as a partner last year, will enable us to fulfil our growth ambitions.”
