Plans revealed for new offices, homes and hotel in Nottingham city centre

The masterplan

Nottingham City Council has unveiled its vision for the Broadmarsh West and Central College sites.

A public consultation has opened to seek views on the next phase of the Southside area of the city. The Council says the area will include a new green public square, homes, retail, offices, tourism and a “high quality” hotel.

The proposed plans include the redevelopment of the Central College site which will be vacated later this year when students and staff move to the new £58m Nottingham College City Hub. The Council says the site, on a major junction at the foot of the Castle on Maid Marian Way, provides an opportunity to create a new ‘Gateway to the Castle’, connecting a new linear park along Collin Street with the Broadmarsh area, new College Hub and Transport Hubs.

A statement from the Council says: “The plans also seek to retain the area’s best heritage assets, and enhance them with new public areas, pathways and viewpoints and to protect and enhance the landmark views to and from the Castle.”

Draft guidance has been approved for consultation by councillor Linda Woodings the Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing and Heritage. The City Council says it is currently consulting neighbouring residents and other interested parties to share their views and comments on the documents.

A draft Broadmarsh West Masterplan and a draft Development Brief for the Central College site on Maid Marian Way has been developed by the City Council, which sets out the vision and framework for future development in this area.

The plans are the next phase of the Southside regeneration project, with £2 billion of projects on site, about to start or open to discussion in a 0.5 square mile area of the city centre. These include the redevelopment of intu Broadmarsh, the new Broadmarsh Car Park, Bus Station and new Central Library alongside Nottingham College’s City Hub and the new tourist experience at Nottingham Castle, a public sector led £250m investment which the City Council says will bring 3,000 jobs, £1.1bn of economic growth over a decade and 3 million more visitors a year to the city.
