Furlough claims top £1.5bn

The number of companies that have claimed cash for employees as part of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has continued to rise.
New figures released by HMRC show that by midnight on Monday 20 April, some 185,000 claims had been made at a value of £1.5bn.
This effectively means that the Government is employing 1.3m people and paying them 80% of their salary.
For employers to get their payments by 30 April they need to make a claim by midnight tomorrow (Wednesday 22 April) as it takes six working days to process claims.
