Plans approved for flats on former police station site

How the new scheme could look

Plans for a new residential scheme at the entrance to Nottingham’s prestigious Park estate have been granted planning permission.

Mellen Developments will demolish a the former police station building at 1 Newcastle Terrace near Canning Circus and build an 8-apartment scheme with car parking.

Newcastle Terrace is made up of listed Georgian regency buildings and the developer says the current building is “out of character with its surroundings”.

Mellen Developments has been in talks with Nottingham City Council about the scheme for around four years. The plans show a four-storey building with a fifth storey clerestory level. that will include six 2-bedroom and two 3-bedroom apartments.

A planning statement said: “Overall the proposed development is considered to make a positive contribution to the identified heritage assets by removing the former police station, which currently makes a negative contribution towards the heritage significance of the Conservation Areas.

“The proposal to replace the former police station with a modern building which reflects the historic mass, scale, density and grain of surrounding buildings is considered to enhance The Park Conservation Area and the setting of its associated listed buildings.”
