Environment Agency drops objection to £650m Nottingham scheme

How the new Island Quarter scheme might look

The Environment Agency has backed down from its objections to the first phase of the £650m Island Quarter site – paving the way for construction to begin and – TheBusinessDesk.com understands – a planning application for the larger Phase 1b section of the Nottingham development.

The Environment Agency had objected to developer Conygar’s Flood Risk Plan for Canal Turn, the performance venue and restaurant space which will act as the gateway to the long-awaited scheme in Nottingham city centre. This led to a last minute agenda addition to the latest city council Planning Committee at which councillors discussed the objection from the Agency.

Conygar had warned that it the first phase of the Island Quarter was delayed it could set the entire scheme back by a year. However, that no longer appears to be the case.

The overall plans for the 40-acre site will bring new homes, grade A office space, creative spaces, a hotel with PRS and co-working space, a ‘linear’ park and vibrant community and event space as well as student accommodation to the city.
