New head of insurance litigation announced as law firm gears up for further growth

Law firm Flint Bishop has named partner Anthony Carrington as its new head of insurance litigation.

Carrington, having previously joined from international law firm DAC Beachcroft earlier this year, has over 10 years of experience advising several of the UK’s largest general and motor
insurers.

Carrington will be based across the firm’s Birmingham and Derby offices, managing the department which handles the full range of defendant insurance work, majoring on those areas of particular importance to the firm’s insurer clients including credit hire, fraud, recoveries and large/catastrophic loss.

He will be supported by large loss partner Jon Gilbert, who will be taking an operational lead at the firm’s Derby office.

Carrington said: “Since joining from international law firms, I have been hugely impressed with the quality of work and calibre of the team here at Flint Bishop. I am particularly encouraged by the significant growth across all areas of the defendant personal injury practice.

“As head of department, I am looking forward to contributing to the firm’s ambitious growth plans, further developing our insurer and corporate client base with a particular focus on the
Gibraltar insurance market. The streamlined executive structure at Flint Bishop allows the firm to remain adaptable in a fast-paced market, continually tailoring our unique offering to
suit individual client needs.”

Chief executive Qamer Ghafoor added: “Our insurance litigation department has seen significant growth in recent months due to the expansion of the portfolio of high-quality complex work that we undertake for both insurer and self-insured clients.

“Our unique offering has enabled us to be more flexible to our clients’ needs, with Flint Bishop now considered a disrupter in the marketplace. The firm continues to attract a large volume of staff from other leading insurance law firms and has a number of key placements in the pipeline.

“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Anthony on his promotion. I have every confidence in Anthony, who has led bigger teams at national firms. Anthony’s placement is critical in taking the department to the next level.”

The promotion sees Carrington take over the reins from former head of department Raj Sumal, who after 15 years as a personal injury lawyer, has decided to pursue a different
career path outside of the litigation arena.
