Plans to be submitted for 262 city centre apartments

How the scheme would look

Plans have been revealed by Mayforth to develop a new build to rent scheme on Church Gate in Leicester.

As part of the scheme, the current Matalan building which was constructed in the 1980s will be demolished and replaced with a development, called 100 Church Gate, comprising 262 residential apartments, made up of a mix of 1, 2 and 3-bed units, alongside internal and external amenity space.

Mayforth is currently preparing a planning application, which will be submitted to Leicester City Council “in due course”.

A public consultation on the scheme has been launched.

A statement from Mayforth said: “The proposals will regenerate a prominent site in the centre of Leicester which has been carefully designed to complement its surroundings whilst delivering much needed new homes in the city. The scheme therefore forms part of the urban renaissance in this part of Leicester; bringing forward modern new living accommodation to create highly sustainable new neighbourhoods.

“The proposals also supports pedestrian connectivity around the site as well as providing a wider connection to the local context and surroundings. The scheme would bring a large area and element of greenery to the city centre which improves and enhances the very small amount of greenery there is at present. Alongside this, the proposals include a significant amount of new landscaping which will enhance the public realm and supporting the consented surrounding improvements to Leicester city centre.”
