Locals rejoice as Notts firm strikes deal to reoccupy vacant convenience store

Shoppers in Chilwell received a welcome boost today after it was announced that the site of a former Sainsbury’s local store which closed down last year has been reoccupied.

HEB has let the site on Blenheim Drive to Heron Frozen Foods on behalf of Nottingham developers Hofton & Son, meaning locals will now have an alternative to the Co-op on nearby Bramcote Lane to choose from.

The Co-op is the only other similar outlet in the vicinity – making the closure of the Sainsbury’s branch all the more frustrating for the area’s many residents.

The new store is expected to open on 24 May and staff recruitment is reportedly already underway.

Robert Maxey of HEB Surveyors said: “This densely populated area of Chilwell has been somewhat lacking a convenience store facility since Sainsbury’s decided to close.

“It was therefore pleasing to see Heron step in to the gap and I do not doubt their store will be a fantastic success and welcomed by local shoppers.”

Heron Frozen Foods were represented by James Lamming at Barker Proudlove in Leeds.
