Derby County sale saga set to go into extra time

The sale of Derby County appears to be reaching its endgame after a season-long saga – and despite another deadline seemingly slipping by.

The Rams, who entered administration last August and were relegated from the Championship at the end of the season after being hit by a 21-point deduction, look set to be taken over by US businessman Chris Kirchner tomorrow (June 1).

Administrators from Quantuma had expected the sale of the club to go through today, but, as many times before in the elongated sales process, timescales appeared to have slipped. Quantuma, while reassuring fans that the deal will go through, now says the deal will be completed on Wednesday.

A spokesperson on behalf of the joint administrators of Derby County said: “The joint administrators of Derby County Football Club can confirm that very good progress has been made in respect of the sale of the business and the assets of the club to Mr Chris Kirchner.

“Whilst it was to be hoped that completion of this would have been achieved today (May 31), there is a possibility that completion may be delayed until Wednesday June 1.

“We would like to reassure all stakeholders but specifically all staff, players and fans that we fully expect completion to happen within the revised timescales set out above”.
