Plans revealed for major retail park overhaul

How one of the drive-thrus could look

Some 60 jobs could be created at a Nottingham retail park after plans were revealed to create over 21,500 sq ft of food retail space.

The plans, submitted by Firstplan, outline transforming units A-D at Riverside Retail Park on Electric Avenue on a speculative basis. Firstplan says no tenant has yet been identified for the units – but that the accompanying application for two drive-thru restaurant pods on the retail park would house Popeyes and Starbucks.

Two of the four units outlined in the plans are standing vacant.

A planning statement reads: “[The application] is required in order to future-proof the ongoing vitality and viability of Riverside Retail Park as a retail destination for Nottingham’s residents, enabling the units to be attractive to as wide a range of future tenants as possible at a time of considerable challenge in the retail sector, particularly in terms of comparison retailers curtailing their expansion programmes.”

Boots is the tenant in Unit A, while Next occupies Unit C. Units A and D are empty.
