On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Paul Hanson

Armsons Barlow has appointed a new associate director.

Paul Hanson joined the project management and construction consultancy, then known as Barlow & Associates, in 1991.

During his time with the firm, Hanson has held a variety of roles including quantity surveyor, employer’s agent, bank monitoring surveyor, project manager and party wall surveyor.

As associate director, he will manage a team of surveyors and take the lead on a portfolio of schemes for one of the firm’s key clients.

Hanson said: “The merger of Armsons and Barlow & Associates is proving to be an exciting time, and I am enjoying being part of a larger team and sharing experiences.

“The varying roles and mix of clients I have worked on over the past 30 years has helped keep the work fresh and exciting. This, together with great colleagues, is the reason I have been here for this amount of time.

“My promotion within the new structure at Armsons Barlow has opened up a new chapter to enable me to further my career and I look forward to many more years learning and sharing with my new colleagues.”

Josh Toon, director at Armsons Barlow, added: “We’re delighted to appoint Paul as an associate director at Armsons Barlow. This appointment reflects the significant contribution he has made to the firm over the past three decades.

“Over the past 30 years, Paul has gained an unrivalled level of experience, working on a diverse range of major projects for both private and public sector clients and he is set to take on more responsibility in his new role as a senior member of the team.”

Meanwhile, RSM East Midlands has taken on a record 56 new students this year – more than double the number of trainees it recruited in 2021.

The audit, tax and consulting firm has welcomed 28 new trainees in Leicester and 28 in Nottingham.

Kevin Harris

Kevin Harris, office managing partner at RSM Leicester, said: “Recruiting our largest cohort of new trainees both in the East Midlands and as a firm, demonstrates our continuous investment in people. We continue to grow locally across all our core service lines, and this investment reinforces our desire to carry on this trend despite the tough economic challenges ahead.”

Victoria Kirkhope, people partner at RSM UK, added: “It is hugely rewarding to know this year we have our highest number of trainees coming on board to help deliver our business ambitions. With a focus on personal and professional development, RSM is a great place to start your career and an exciting environment within which to progress. The latest wave of trainees come from different backgrounds with different experiences and outlooks, and the firm benefits from having a wide and diverse pool of people. In return, they will gain a well-structured training path in their early years, working in a supportive and collaborative culture.”
