Leicester-based developer DE74 Properties has submitted plans to convert a former 1820s townhouse in Nottingham’s historic Castle Quarter into student flats.

Thiskey House at 2 St James’s Terrace is currently used as office accommodation. Newly filed proposals reveal a development of nine student bedrooms plus a ground floor games room and living/dining areas could be created at the Grade II listed property, with the scheme specifically targeting “students who will not have access to public transport.”

Situated on the corner of St James’s Terrace and Rutland Street, the building comprises three storeys and a basement and retains a number of period features. It is currently home to The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute.

A planning and design statement submitted by Swish Architecture & Planning on behalf of DE74 indicates that only “minor” alterations would be made to the exterior of the building.

The statement adds: “The current building is in need of maintenance work and the conversion back into a dwelling will give the listed property a new lease of life that we feel will not only benefit the end users with high quality accommodation but preserve the appearance on the street scene of a listed building within an established conservation area.”
