Construction starts on 650-home development project

Construction is set to start on a 650-home community in Mastin Moor, Derbyshire.
The site got the go-ahead from the local planning committee in December 2022. Since then, The Devonshire Group, owner of the 46-hectare site, have been preparing the site for phases 1 and 2, which involves building an access road, setting up services and creating open spaces.
These preparations should be done by late spring 2024.
After this, local developer Harron Homes will start building 143 homes with three, four, and five bedrooms in the first phase during the summer of 2024.
The site preparations will also make room for the construction skills hub, part of the Staveley Town deal project, which is a collaboration between Chesterfield Borough Council, Chesterfield College, and the University of Derby.
The skills hub will be a place for construction training, career activities, and on-site work experience.
Andrew Byrne, property development director said: “Receiving planning approval marks an exciting next step for our development at Mastin Moor. We are now able to get underway with works in earnest and start to see the project really take shape.
“Our focus now is to ensure that we move the project forward quickly, while also prioritising a considered, sustainable and sensitive approach for the benefit of the wider community that we serve. We’re looking forward to continuing this journey and creating a place that will contribute to the area and provide new homes for local people.”
The whole project is expected to take 10 years, creating jobs in construction and related fields.
