Bomb alert at East Midlands Airport sees man arrested

A man was taken into custody at East Midlands Airport late yesterday afternoon after he claimed to be carrying an explosive device while onboard a Jet2 flight.
The aircraft was on the ground at the time of the incident.
Armed officers were deployed at the scene, which began at around 5.15pm on Monday afternoon. The man left the aircraft and was arrested on suspicion of possession of an explosive substance.
A statement from Leicestershire Police said: “Following the arrest, the aircraft has been fully searched. No explosive device has been found onboard and there is no suggestion that the threat made is viable.
“The man arrested remains in police custody and our enquiries remain ongoing.”
