Law firm poaches new partner from rival

Selina Hinchliffe

Law firm Shakespeare Martineau announces the addition of partner Selina Hinchliffe to lead its commercial intellectual property team covering the East Midlands and South Yorkshire regions.

With over 16 years of experience following her qualification, Hinchliffe joins Shakespeare Martineau after serving as a partner at Browne Jacobson for nearly seven years.

Prior to that, she spent more than 11 years at Eversheds Sutherland, progressing from an associate to a principal associate during her tenure.

Hinchliffe specialises in intellectual property and is skilled at drafting and negotiating various agreements, such as innovation R&D, sponsorship, merchandise, and publishing contracts.

She also provides guidance on IP strategy and policy and frequently works on the IP aspects of broader commercial deals, corporate transactions, and joint ventures.

Hinchliffe has mostly advised clients in education, energy, and technology sectors. She recently helped a UK university with emission-cutting technology licensing, an international utilities provider with offshore wind farm patents, and a successful YouTuber with merchandise deals.

Nichola Briggs, partner and head of intellectual property at Shakespeare Martineau, said: “We are delighted to welcome Selina to the firm; her technical knowledge and broad experience will be a real asset to our team as we look to grow our intellectual property offering and cement our reputation in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire.”
