On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Steve Round

Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO has hired a new partner.

Having previously worked at BDO between 2011 to 2018, Steve Round rejoins the firm as a tax partner in the East Midlands. He specialises in transaction tax and advising owner-managed businesses, their shareholders & private equity-backed businesses on tax issues arising during all stages of a business’ lifecycle.

Kyla Bellingall, regional managing partner at BDO in the Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to welcome back Steve to our rapidly expanding East Midlands team. In the last 12 months, we have invested significantly in the region, cementing our position in the market with our long-term move to Nottingham city centre, while also attracting talented and high-performing individuals to strengthen our proposition. Steve will add considerable value as we continue to grow our tax and corporate finance teams in the East Midlands.”

Round will be based in the firm’s Nottingham office and joins from Cooper Parry.

He said: “It’s fantastic to be back at BDO during a period of exciting growth in the region. I’m really looking forward to getting back out in the East Midlands market to reignite strong relationships with the private equity and advisor community, as well as owner-managed businesses that are the lifeblood of the region. I can’t wait to get stuck in and build close bonds across our local, national and international teams – a network that brings considerable value to our service offering.”

Dan Bratton and Jacob Porter

Two new recruits have joined the team at Lincoln-based PR, marketing and digital agency Shooting Star.

New starters Dan Bratton and Jacob Porter will strengthen the team’s digital marketing services which include social media management and video production.

Bratton has been appointed as digital content executive.

He said: “I was keen to make the move from working as an in-house marketer to a more specialised role within a creative marketing agency as I love to keep things varied and interesting.

“Working with multiple businesses and organisations to help them improve their online presence is an exciting challenge! I want to learn as much as possible and I can’t wait to start creating meaningful content for both Shooting Star and our clients.”

Jacob Porter is the agency’s new digital marketer.

He said: “When I first met the leadership team at Shooting Star, I was amazed! The atmosphere is friendly, the office is comforting, and the vision and values are aligned to my own. I knew instantly that Shooting Star was a place I would love to work and grow my skills.

“I’m looking forward to bringing success to our current and future clients. We win when our clients win and vice versa.”

Shooting Star director Jez Ashberry said: “We’ve had an extremely busy start to 2024 and Jacob and Dan are welcome additions to the team.

“They’re already putting their skills to good use and have both got off to a flying start. With the increase in capacity, we’re looking forward to continuing to provide an excellent service to existing clients while also taking on new ones.”
