Derbyshire is set for a boost in affordable housing as a local developer embarks on a new project.

Wheeldon Brothers, in partnership with housing association Place for People, is set to deliver 109 affordable homes in Langley Mill.

The development will transform an eight-acre brownfield site into a new community with a mix of two- and three-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows.

Theo Till, land manager at Wheeldon Brothers said: “This site has sat vacant for several years in the heart of Langley Mill, which is now set to be transformed into much-needed new homes for the area. The development will include 109 new homes and a mix of tenures including affordable rent and shared ownership, which will cater to various local housing needs.

“We are very pleased to be working in partnership with Places for People to deliver this fully affordable scheme; our great emphasis on delivering quality new homes combined with their outstanding reputation will ensure that local people will benefit from high quality yet affordable homes.”

Copping Joyce and Ward Hadaway LLP provided legal counsel to Places for People, while CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP advised Wheeldon during the deal.

Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2025, with homes anticipated to be available through Places for People by summer 2026.
