Nottinghamshire housing provider secures £8m for energy efficency upgrades

Nottinghamshire-based housing provider, Platform Housing Group, has provisionally secured nearly £8m in funding to deliver energy efficiency upgrades to its customers’ homes.
The funding comes through Wave 3 of the Government’s Warm Homes Social Housing Fund (WHSHF).
It has been made available by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) as part of the Midlands Net Zero Hub’s Strategic Partnership, a collaboration focused on helping housing associations across the region improve the energy efficiency of their properties.
Platform plans to use the grant to improve the energy performance of hundreds of homes, aiming to cut household energy costs and reduce carbon emissions.
The upgrades are an important step toward the Group’s goal of achieving an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of at least C across all its properties by 2030.
Lianne Taylor, director of Sustainability at Platform Housing Group said: “We’re proud to be part of this strategic partnership which will deliver real benefits to our customers and communities. Improving the energy efficiency of our homes is a top priority, not only to help tackle fuel poverty but also to create a positive environmental impact. The funding will also help bring us closer to meeting our goal of achieving Net Zero across our operations and homes.”
The funding will support retrofitting existing homes using a whole-house, fabric-first which prioritises insulation, heating, and ventilation systems to maximise energy efficiency and comfort.
Platform customer Terry, who benefited from similar upgrades through Wave 2 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) said: “The new heat pump is so cost effective and more efficient all year round, which is great. When me and my partner enter our front door it’s a great feeling, the heat is wonderful and we now don’t have to worry about heating our home and waiting ages for the house to warm up.”
Before the funding is officially confirmed, Grant Funding Agreements (GFAS) must be signed with DESNZ.
Once finalised, Platform will be able to move forward with delivering the project and making lasting improvements to its housing stock.
