Former garden centre to be re-purposed as Kayaking HQ

A long-vacant site in Cromford is set for a major transformation, as Peak UK Kayaking Co has secured planning permission to redevelop the former Cromford Garden Centre into its new headquarters, Carrwood Mill.
The project, which will create 12 new jobs, includes a new base for kayaking activities, a community hub, and a home for PaddlePeak, the company’s charitable initiative focused on youth engagement and river conservation.
It will also bring textile manufacturing back to the historic Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
For over 30 years, Peak UK has manufactured kayaking apparel and equipment, supplying elite athletes, including Olympians.
Given its brownfield status within a World Heritage Site, the project required careful planning and heritage considerations.
James Boon Architects led the architectural design, working alongside Planning & Design Practice to conduct comprehensive Heritage Impact Assessments in line with ICOMOS guidelines.
