Leicester ‘second worst place to buy a home this century’

If you’ve bought a house in Leicester over the last 15 years, you’re living in the second worst place to have purchased a property in England and Wales since the turn of the century. At least, where resulting value is concerned, according to estate agent eMoov.
eMoov analysed data from the Office of National Statistics charting the median house price across England and Wales by quarter since Q1 of 2000.
Despite the majority of UK homeowners enjoying a consistent increase in property values since the start of the new millennium, not everyone has been so lucky.
Leicester came off second-worst out of some 7,207 locations, with an average house price change of just 9%.
However, the city wasn’t the worst – those who have bought a house in Bolton since the turn of the millennium have seen their house price decrease by 9%. In contrast, the rest of the UK has seen a value increase of +172%.
eMoov found that the average house price in Leicester is now £99,204, up from £90,766 in Q1 of 2000.
