Individualism shines through at University of Leicester

Nottingham-based full-service creative agency Michon has launched the ‘I’m Somebody’ brand campaign for the University of Leicester, inspired by stories and experiences from current students, academics and alumni.
With a brief to reflect the University of Leicester’s position ranking in the top 1% of universities in the world, Michon developed a multi-channel campaign that would build brand awareness and attract students from both overseas and the UK.
Some of the stories used in the final campaign included Dr Turi King, who was instrumental in uncovering Richard III’s DNA, and Professor Martin Barstow, who regularly works with NASA and is President of the Royal Astronomical Society.
With a goal to motivate and inspire other driven and ambitious people to the University, the campaign is distributed across the East Midlands and London targeting those with a similar desire for success.
Mark Fensom, account marketing director at Michon, said: “Unlike many creative campaigns for universities which just have the intention of attracting new students, our work with the University of Leicester went much deeper than that. It was a case of communicating what makes the University special in order to celebrate the here and now, reflecting individual stories in an innovative, eye-catching and memorable way.”
Conceived, designed and delivered in just four months, the ‘I’m Somebody’ campaign has been met with rapturous approval from the University.
Dr Tracy Carlton, director of marketing and student recruitment at the University of Leicester said: “I have been impressed at the way that Mark and the team have taken our brief and turned this into an inspirational multi-channel campaign that highlights some of the amazing stories from across the University. We hope this campaign will inspire people to study with us in the future.”
