Former nightclub to be turned into flats

A former bar in the Lace Market area of Nottingham which was closed down after a stabbing incident last year is to be turned into flats.

Nottingham City Council has given the go ahead for the former BZR bar and nightclub in the Lace Market to be turned into eight apartments.

BZR was closed last April after having its license revoked following the stabbing of bouncer Michael Withers. In October, Jordan Hamilton was jailed for four years for the offence.

Before the incident, residents from St Mary’s Gate and Halifax Place were campaigning against the extension of the bar’s licensed hours.

Now, Nottingham-based Perrymead Estates, which is run by Oliver Wheatcroft and was formerly knows as Braemar Projects, has been given the green light to redevelopment the building.

The flats will be designed by Plan A Architecture of Nottingham.

Before it was BZR, the building was the popular Lizard Lounge nightclub and could hold 700 people.
