Leicester firm in MEAN shape after funding deal

Eve Wylie

A personal training specialist has launched her own business after using strength training to combat mental health problems with backing from First Enterprise.

Eve Wylie started MEAN Training, based at Leicester’s Frog Island, after using strength training and fitness as a way to overcome her own personal battle with mental health problems. Now she employs three staff and has opened her own studio with all the latest training equipment.

Wylie received a £12,000 loan from East Midlands funding provider First Enterprise to follow her career dream.

She said: “When I started out I wanted to deliver a very reliable and bespoke service that I feel my clients deserve. I set off to learn everything I could about training and nutrition, how your body adapts to different types of exercise, and how we can help people to fit the advice in to their life in a practical and sustainable way.

“A few years after gaining my personal training diploma I realised I’d created something really special and I thought I could use my knowledge to turn my love of fitness into a business. I just want people to know that you really can achieve all kinds of incredible transformations, as much as I have experienced one myself.”

“I was referred to First Enterprise who have been a massive help. I didn’t know what the first step was but after speaking with advisor Emily, she showed me how to put a business plan together and from there it has been amazing to see everything fall into place.

“It has been extremely hard work and a learning curve but I am so pleased with everything I have achieved.”

First Enterprise, a not for profit organisation, provides loans and free business advice to start-ups and existing businesses from all backgrounds and sectors across the East Midlands.
