Benoy wins Broadmarsh brief

Benoy, the Newark-based architect, has won the brief to design Intu’s revamped Broadmarsh shopping centre.

The firm says it is working on designs for the Broadmarsh before enabling works are started in the first half of next year.

A spokesperson for Benoy said: “The scheme will bring a new cinema, leisure uses, more than 15 restaurants and with two new retail anchors to the area.

“The design aims to break down the architectural barrier of the existing centre and provide new routes through the city centre with open, public squares and an internal street shopping format. The entire centre will undergo full internal refurbishment and extensive external alterations which will add a diverse local project to our portfolio.”

Meanwhile, Benoy has posted what it is calling a “strong” set of results for the year ending 31 December, despite both turnover and profits dropping.

Last year Benoy turned over £48m, compared with £51.8m in 2014, which generated profits of £5m (£7.5m in 2014).

Benoy has also revealed that it has set up a steering group to monitor “turbulence within both the fiscal and political arenas – most notably around Brexit and the fluctuating Chines economy. The group is drawn from across the firm’s studious and disciplines and will also look to identify opportunities arising from these developments.

Benoy employs 508 people and has offices in Newark, London , Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
