Timico named as new sponsor of Point-to-Point racing

Newark IT, internet and communications service provider and sponsor of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Timico Technology Group, has today been named as a new national sponsor of Point-to-Point horse racing, culminating in an all-new Timico Mixed Open Gold Cup Final to be held at the Hunter Chase evening at Cheltenham Racecourse on Friday 5th May.

Timico will sponsor a series of 14 nationwide Point-to-Point qualifying races, named the Timico Mixed Open Gold Cup Series, in which the horses placed first, second and third will qualify for the final at Cheltenham.

Tim Radford, executive chairman at Timico said: “We wanted to offer a series that could act as a launch pad for top Point-to-Point horses that might progress into a career in professional racing.

“We see investment in grass roots racing as a very positive step to support the sport and the owners, trainers and jockeys involved within in it.”

Timico became the new sponsor of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in December 2015. Having been involved in sponsoring its local Point-to-Points for a number of years, Timico was keen to take this commitment further, effectively creating a Gold Cup final for the amateur division, hosted at Cheltenham, the home of jump racing.

“For Timico, being involved in racing sponsorship is a win-win. It gives us the opportunity to promote our brand to a national and international audience, and offer our staff, clients and suppliers the chance to be part of a hugely exciting sport,” continued Radford.

Clare Hazell, chief executive at The Point to Point Authority said: “We are delighted that Timico has recognised the opportunity and good fit with Pointing and are very grateful for their committed support as new sponsors. We look forward to making the relationship a great success for us both. Watching the top Point-to-Pointers compete for a place in such a significant and prestigious final at the home of National Hunt racing will be another highlight of the season.”

Simon Claisse, director of racing and clerk of the course at Cheltenham, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to work with the Point-to-Point Authority and Timico to bring this concept to life. Following on from their Cheltenham Gold Cup sponsorship, I am sure that Timico’s support of the grass roots of the sport will be much appreciated by all of those involved and I shall very much look forward to the first Timico Mixed Open Gold Cup Final next May.”
