Pennine wins £50,000 extension to £1m deal

BURY-based telecoms distributor Pennine Telecom has won a £50,000 contract extension from Bolton College following an earlier £1m installation at its new Deane Road campus.

The telecoms company is to extend the wireless network it installed to cover a neighbouring building which will be used as the college’s new construction centre.
The work will involve the installation of 50 Meru wireless access points and two energy efficient Extreme network switches.

“The extension will ensure we enjoy full broadband wireless coverage across the whole site, providing wi-fi access to staff, management, students and guests,” said Bolton College’s IT operations manager, Railton Knott.

“One benefit will be that staff using wireless telephone handsets won’t drop calls when walking across to the construction centre.”

Pennine Telecom is owned by former Bolton College student Andrew Roberts, who took charge of the business in 2003 following a management buy-out.
