Public event planned to discuss Woodford’s future

STOCKPORT and Cheshire East Councils are holding a an event for local residents this Saturday, June 18, to discuss options for BAE Systems’ base at Woodford.

BAE Systems has recently held a public exhibition running through potential plans for the site, which had previously built Nimrod planes for the Royal Air Force until orders for new models were cut as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review.

Local residents and interest groups are now being invited to a design workshop taking place this at 12-2pm on Saturday where specific options for the site will be discussed.

Councillor Mark Wheldon, executive member for Communities at Stockport Council, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who has taken part in BAE’s public exhibition and our design workshops so far.

“We are getting very valuable information to help shape the redevelopment process, which we will feed back to residents in due course.”

Cheshire East Council’s Jamie Macrae, cabinet member with responsibility for prosperity, said: “I would urge local residents to come along to the presentation on the outcome of the design workshops, as these findings will help to inform proposals for the site’s future.

Stockport Council is also asking local residents in Reddish for their opinions on future uses of the North Reddish Junior and Infant Schools sites following their closure in the summer when Children will move to the new Vale View Primary School.

An exhibition is being held at Reddish Library on Gorton Road from 10am  on June 21 until 4pm on Saturday, July 4.
