Proposals announced to develop two new supermarket outlets
Plans have been revealed for two supermarket developments in the region.
PMJ Capital has completed on a £1.6m development loan for 100% of the build cost for a joint venture between North West property firms, Lane End Group and construction company, Williams Tarr to fund the construction of a Co-Op convenience store and five other retail units in Sandymoor, Halton.
And supermarket group Lidl has unveiled plans for a new store near Chester.
The new Halton retail local centre will provide much needed amenities for the large, well established residential area.
The funding package comprises a development loan, over a 12-month term with the completed development valued at £2.9m.
Scott Ashall, director at Lane End, said: “Having worked with Lee and PMJ on a recent development for a new Costa Coffee in Northwich, they were the first we called on when we embarked on this new project. Sandymoor is a well located area with over 900 homes and currently has no local amenities.
“This new scheme will provide local facilities to support the thousands of residents living in Sandymoor. Once complete the residents will have the benefit of new Co-op convenience store, a veterinary surgery, which will be operated by North Star Vets, and we are also hoping to announce two further occupiers shortly. This will leave us with just two retail units being available.”
Lee Barton, development director at PMJ Capital, said: “This is the second project we’ve worked on with the team at Lane End and we are delighted to be able to support them once again.”
Work is expected to take around 10 months with completion due in January 2022.
Meanwhile, Lidl GB has launched public consultation on draft plans to deliver a new store at Caldy Valley Retail Park in Greater Boughton, Chester.
This multimillion-pound investment will see a new store with a sales area of 1,404 sq m, including facilities such as Lidl’s bakery, longer style tills with dual packing and customer toilets. Solar panels will be installed on the roof, with the overall design in keeping with Lidl’s continued commitment to sustainability.
Lidl intends to significantly refurbish and upgrade the retail units currently occupied by B&M and Rightway, delivering a new foodstore fitted out to the latest specifications.
Having recently purchased the freehold of the Caldy Valley Retail Park, Lidl will also seek planning approval to improve the outdoor spaces and public realm, along with reconfiguring the existing car park to provide 200 parking spaces, including nine accessible spaces, two EV charging spaces and 10 parent and child spaces.
The neighbouring units, occupied by Halfords and Pets at Home, will continue to operate.
Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Stuart Jardine, said: “We have been looking to bring a second store to Chester for some time and are delighted to have secured this site on the eastern side of the city.
