Blackpool accountants seal merger

BLACKPOOL accountancy firm John Potter & Harrison – which celebrates its 120th anniversary this year –  is merging with town centre rivals Coope, Badman & Co.

The deal, backed by The Co-operative Bank, creates an 18-strong firm providing audit and accountancy services to businesses and financial advice to individuals.

JPH was established in 1892 by former Mayor of Blackpool, John Potter and has offices in Blackpool and Lytham. It is now run by directors Ian Riding, Jackie Daniels and Alister Miller.

The merger will see Coope, Badman & Co’s eight staff – including principal John Badman – moving to JPH’s Blackpool office on Whitegate Drive.

Ian Riding at JPH, said: “We are delighted to welcome John and his colleagues from Coope, Badman & Co, which brings the team to 18.

“Coope, Badman & Co is a well established chartered accountancy firm which is not only a great strategic fit with JPH, but also allows us to grow, whilst retaining highly skilled jobs in Blackpool.”

Gerald Waterfield, senior corporate manager at the Lancashire corporate banking centre (CBC) of The Co-operative Bank, said: “We pride ourselves on our tried and trusted strategy of starting and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with our corporate customers over the long term.

“JPH and Coope Badman are well established chartered accountancy firms with excellent reputations for providing high quality accountancy and financial advice services to individuals and companies across the UK, and we are delighted to help them see their business aspirations realised.”
