Property briefs: Stocktons buys Stockport shed, Kirkland, Mazars, and more

FURNITURE retailer Stocktons has bought a 32,000 sq ft warehouse at Bredbury Industrial Park, Stockport, for an undisclosed sum.

Stocktons, which is headquartered at its showroom in Ancoats, has acquired the freehold for the property which it will operate as a storage and distribution centre.

The detached warehouse, which includes a two-storey office, is on Horsfield Way, close to Junction 25 of the M60. Jones Lang LaSalle and Garner & Sons acted for the vendor, a private investor.

Mark Sillitoe, associate director industrial & logistics at Jones Lang LaSalle, said: “Freehold opportunities like this are few and far between in the southern section of the M60, so it’s unsurprising that the premises attracted significant interest from a number of parties when we brought it to the market last year.”

STOCKPORT developer Kirkland has won permission for its Marple supermarket plan.

It was decided at the same meeting on Friday that saw Stockport’s planning committee knock back a rival proposal from Asda.

Both proposals were for 25,000 sq ft shops but Kirkland’s was just off the main shopping street, while Asda’s was slightly out of town as part of a redevelopment of a sixth form college.

Kirkland’s plans were handled by Manchester-based How Planning. Deloitte Real Estate represented Asda.

Dan Brown, principal planner at HOW Planning: “Our scheme will not only result in the physical regeneration of an underutilised in-centre site but will also create a lasting legacy as a high-quality food retail development which ‘anchors’ the district centre, creating a significant longstanding attraction. It provides an ideal opportunity to expand and radically enhance the existing retail offer within Marple.”

Planning officers feared the Asda scheme could harm Marple’s town centre.

CONSTRUCTION Partnership UK (CPUK) has started on a £7m student hall in Salford.

The 242-bed Riverside House is being developed by a partnership called Salford Student LLP.

Skelmersdale-based CPUK is planning to complete the work in time for the university’s 2013 intake. It has been designed by the Manchester office of architects Leach Rhodes Walker.

Steve Burke, managing director at CPUK, said: “This is a negotiated contract for us and we have been appointed because of our excellent record of delivery, on time and to budget.

“We also have a reputation for our ability to work on challenging inner-city projects and the development here is on a restricted and tight city centre site.”
