Major occupier ‘in talks’ over Omega South

OMEGA Warrington Ltd (OWL) is said to be in talks with another major occupier for the southern half of the former Burtonwood airbase just off the M62.
Work is already underway on a 600,000 sq ft, £100m distribution base for Asda which is the biggest single European investment by parent company Walmart.
Now talks are underway with a potential occupier which TheBusinessDesk.com understands could take up to 700,000 sq ft of manufacturing and logistics space. A masterplan for the site has earmarked around 2.1 million sq ft of industrial development at the southern part of the scheme.
Omega is a joint venture between Miller Developments and Royal Bank of Scotland-owned KUC Properties which is developing the 575-acre former Burtonwood airbase.
Around 80 acres sits north of the M62 and is already occupied by distribution bases for catering group Brakes and Hermes Parcelnet. A third unit for Travis perkins is under construction.
The larger section south of the motorway is also dedicated to logistics but will have other uses such as housing. Construction of the Asda building is expected to be finished by the summer and it should be up and running by January.
A spokesman for OWL declined to comment.
