Comfy Quilts tucks in to higher profits

BEDDING manufacturer Comfy Quilts, which has the license for the Silentnight brand, saw sales leap 14% to £47.8m last year.
The company, which has a manufacturing site in Middleton and its head office in Wilmslow, reported an increase in pre-tax profits from £152,000 to £2m in the year to June.
Comfy Quilts, owned by the Moryoussef family, has benefited from a reduced cost base and stronger export orders.
Operations director Jamie Moryoussef told TheBusinessDesk: “Demand for our products in Europe and the USA has been very strong and we are excited to see how this develops over the coming years.
“This year we have been extremely successful in the domestic market, launching three new products under the Sound Asleep brand, and have performed well despite the tough economic climate.”
In newly-filed accounts the directors say that changes to the cost base and unprofitable parts of the company have put the company on a surer footing.
“Significant improvements have been made in reducing the company’s cost base and this is expected to continue in the foreseeable future. Unprofitable business has been addressed along with the costs of servicing certain areas of the business
“The group has maintained a very strong balance sheet at the year end and expects to be able to strengthen the group’s position in the short to medium term.”
Staff numbers during the period rose by 18% to 190.
