Kensington market scheme approved

A £5m project to redevelop the former Kensington Market site at Prescot Road in Liverpool has been granted approval.

Developer AW Developments have been given outline planning approval for a scheme that will include a 50,000 sq ft supermarket, another retail unit, 59 new homes and parking for 242 cars. The new homes will comprise 44 family properties and 15 apartments housed in three-storey blocks.

The scheme has been designed by Liverpool architects Falconer Chester Hall. The firm’s director, Alastair Shepherd, said: “This scheme will provide a new focus for the community at the heart of their local centre and will also have considerable benefits in terms of investment and jobs.

“We are delighted both with the number of letters of support that were received from the local community and with the backing of the authority.”
