Stockport brings in more business

STOCKPORT Council has announced inward investment figures for its most recent financial year which it said had resulted in the creation of safeguarding of more than 1,500 jobs.

The council said that 749 new jobs were created by companies either moving into or expanding within the town last year, while a further 796 jobs were safeguarded.

Moreover, an extra 265,39 sq ft of commercial and industrial space was taken up by companies. Investments included BSkyB’s move into BAM Properties’ St Peter’s Square scheme, where it took 5,673 sq ft of space and took on 650 people, and a new operational centre at Cheadle Hulme for WNS Assistance creating 30 new and safeguarding 150 existing jobs.

Law firm Gorvins also took up 15,000 sq ft of new space in the borough, First Step Finance took 25,000 sq ft and Stealth Intelligence took 4,000 sq ft.

Stockport Council leader, Cllr Dave Goddard, said: “Stockport has time and time again bucked the trend and proved that a proactive attitude can attract significant investment, even during tough times.

“These recent figures show that the borough continues to be successful in attracting jobs, businesses and investment, ultimately benefiting those who live and work in Stockport.”
