Evuna opening in foodie haunt Altrincham

Evuna's Knutsford property

Spanish wine and food stalwart Evuna is opening in Altrincham.

The restaurant group already has three branches, two in Manchester and one in Knutsford, and will now open at 84-86 Stamford New Road, in the unit recently vacated by EAT.kaizen.

It has taken a 15-year lease on the 1,750 sq ft ground and basement premises at a rent of £30,000 per annum.

Its first venture on Deansgate, borne from a stand-alone wine importing venture by Frances Dowler and her daughter Jane, is celebrating its 15th birthday and now encompasses outlets in the Northern Quarter and Knutsford.

Jane Dowler, founder of Evuna, said: “It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since we opened our first site.

“Then the UK market considered the world of Spanish wines to consist of just Rioja and Sherry.

“Now – thankfully – it’s so much more than this.

“Evuna’s mission is to provide the finest Spanish wines at a great price and it appears to be working here in the North West as we continue to grow.”

She added: “We have had our eyes on this territory for a while and are delighted to have secured this new outlet in Altrincham which has become a real foodie haunt.”

Evuna will be offering its tested template of tapas and paella, along with an interesting selection of wines from small producers of Iberian regional wines.

It will be opening in early January 2019, after it has completed an extensive refurbishment in the Knutsford-style to provide a 24-seater bar, 50 restaurant covers, with a further 20 on an outside terrace.

Daniel Lee, director, Regional Property Solutions, who acted for the landlord Lorcom Properties, said: “After a successful amendment to the permitted hours of operation, we managed to swiftly conclude the lease.

“An excellent letting to an established high quality restaurant, which I am confident will trade very well on this ever-evolving independent Stamford New Road position.”
