Stylish Italian restaurant group to open Trafford Centre champagne bar

The proposed bar at the Trafford Centre

Manchester’s multi-award winning Italian restaurant company, San Carlo Group today announces it iss to further expand operations in the region.

The Italian family-owned and run group, which has 21 UK restaurants including the high profile and hugely popular San Carlo on King Street West, is to open an eponymously named champagne bar, San Carlo, a new concept standalone champagne and cocktail bar, at Selfridges in the Trafford Centre, this Summer.

San Carlo Champagne Bar will be located in the newly-refurbished accessories hall on the lower level.

The all-day venue will serve an expertly-curated champagne, prosecco, wine and cocktail list, with more than 10 choices of champagne and prosecco served by the glass or bottle, alongside a menu of charcuterie and shellfish plates.

The interior will be a celebration of Italian craft, luxury and beauty with a sense of softness, and elegance. A sculptural and iconic ‘cloud’ chandelier that floats over the bar will take centre stage.

Inspired by the warm effervescence of bubbling champagne and the heritage of Italian Murano glass chandeliers, the 20-foot wide cloud chandelier will be in contrast to the luxurious solidity of the marble bar below and is comprised of 1,000 individual cast glass discs, each one hand-made in the Veneto region of Italy.

All furniture and lighting will be of bespoke design and hand-crafted in Italy and the UK.

The champagne bar will be the sixth Selfridges San Carlo Group venue and comes following the success of the most recent opening of Alto by San Carlo on the rooftop of Selfridges in London, in April last year.

Marcello Distefano, managing director, San Carlo Group said: “We’re excited to bring a new way to enjoy San Carlo to Selfridges Trafford.

“Of course, we’ve not held back on the design, we’re aiming to create a place which elevates the champagne bar experience and offers somewhere stylish and extraordinary to enjoy a moment of relaxation.”

The new opening will see San Carlo number at least one venue in every Selfridges store.

Hannah Bass, Selfridges’ restaurants director, said: “We are delighted to be working with the San Carlo group once again, to launch a new destination Champagne and cocktail bar in our Trafford store.

“The new space builds on the long-standing relationship between our two companies and we are sure our customers will enjoy this fantastic addition to our store.”

The group’s success has been built on providing original Italian food using the freshest produce, much of which is flown in from markets in Milan and Sicily.

A further 20 individually-designed venues are located in Manchester, Birmingham, Cheshire, Liverpool, Leeds, Roundhay, Bristol, Leicester and London and further afield diners enjoy San Carlo restaurants in Qatar, Riyadh, Bahrain and Bangkok.
