HE Simm, one of the UK’s leading MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) providers, has been appointed by Liverpool-based Downing Construction to deliver a £15.6m contract at Miles Street, Vauxhall, London.

The contract will see the company install and commission MEP services for the entire mixed-use scheme, which, when complete, will incorporate 841 student bedrooms within a 37-storey tower as well as a six-storey office block.

The office block will feature a rooftop multi-use games area, accessible to local residents as well as students, along with a sky lounge with panoramic views of London.

Offsite manufacture will play its part in Liverpool firm HE Simm’s delivery, with 20% of the work due to be completed offsite, including bathroom and utility pods.

Gareth Simm, managing director of the firm, said: “We have a long-standing, successful, relationship with Downing Construction. We have supported the company on many schemes – both in the capital and in other UK regions.

“We have a proven track record in projects of this nature, which, coupled with our continued growth and financial stability, stood us in good stead for the project win.”

HE Simm is already involved in the pre-commencement phase, with work starting on site early in 2020. The completion date for the scheme is Autumn 2021.

Miles Street is expected to transform the current closed-off and railed site frontage into an open, accessible and welcoming entrance plaza.

The café on the ground floor will create an active and vibrant frontage on Miles Street.
