Manchester-based Ena Mill Retail has announced expansion plans with the purchase of further retail space, with the financial support of Barclays.

Ena Mill Retail was established in 2011 and is headquartered at the former cotton-spinning mill Ena Mill, Atherton.

Following the success of the Atherton-based retail outlet, which boasts more than 45,000 square feet of retail space, entrepreneurs Simon Yates and Jonathan Addis expanded the business taking over the The Courtyard in Tarleton in 2013.

The new funds from Barclays have supported the purchase of a further retail space which will increase the retail floor space by an additional 20%.

Simon Yates and Jonathan Addis, directors, Ena Mill Retail, said: “It’s been an exciting journey launching Ena Mill and seeing the potential as we have increased retail space and become a retail destination.

“The expansion plans for The Courtyard at Tarleton include an expanded offering in homewares and gifts as well as a revamped menswear department and exciting new brands and we now have over 60,000 square feet of retail space across our two sites.

“We’re delighted that Barclays has been able to support our expansion with funding for our long term growth plans.”

Ena Mills employs more than 70 staff across the two sites and once the new extension launches they plan to recruit an additional four staff at the Tarleton site.

Stuart Stocks, Barclays Business relationship director, put together the funding package for the deal and said: “It’s been very rewarding working with Simon and Jon on the expansion and I know they have big plans to take the business to the next level.

“The new funding will enable the company to stock new brands and provide further choice for their customers at this destination retail outlet.

“It’s great to see a retail business bucking the current trend and the future looks bright for this ambitious team.”
