City’s first Hampton by Hilton hotel celebrates milestone

The topping out ceremony

The topping out of the first Hampton by Hilton hotel in Manchester city centre has been marked.

Celebrations were organised by Blackpool-based Create Construction and Maven Capital Partners to mark the building reaching its maximum height, with the installation of the top level, following a tight construction timetable which began in January 2018.

The event was hosted by key members of the management teams from Create, Maven and Hilton.

Guests included representatives of the joint venture, funding, design, construction, development, project delivery and subcontractor teams and RBH Hospitality Management, who will be responsible for the operation of the hotel when it opens in early 2020.

Guests, keen to see how the build was progressing, were taken up to the sunny roof of the building to admire the Manchester skyline and listen to speeches from Paul Mathison, chief executive of Create Group, Neil Holland, director of projects at Hilton, and Andrew Whiteley, of Maven Capital Partners, who spoke about their collaboration on the project, as well as the work ahead to complete the hotel on time and on budget.

Guests were then given the opportunity to view the sample bedrooms designed by Edge Architects and Interior Designers of Liverpool, which helped everyone visualise how the interior bedroom schemes for the finished hotel will look.

The scheme, the first Hampton by Hilton hotel for Manchester, is being built just as the city is experiencing exceptionally high levels of development and when hotel markets are enjoying record-breaking performance within most regions of the UK.

The hotel will provide 221 rooms and is situated close to Manchester city centre’s Northern Quarter on a tight, logistically challenging site, near to the Co-op Noma Development, Manchester Arena, the busy city centre and national transport links.

The £17.5m development is the second Hampton by Hilton hotel project Create Group has brought to fruition, being developed by Create Developments and built by Create Construction – the first being the hugely successful £9.45m new-build hotel in Blackpool, which was completed in May 2018.

The hotel team won an internal Hilton award for fastest Hampton ramp-up, after just three months of trading.

Neil Holland said: “Today represents a significant milestone for the city of Manchester and local residents as we move closer to bringing the first Hampton by Hilton hotel to the city.

“Today’s event is a celebration of collaboration and an occasion to reflect on everyone’s hard work, as well as this landmark achievement and the success of the project to date. We are looking forward to construction completing and to welcoming visitors to the Hampton by Hilton Manchester Northern Quarter.”

Andrew Whiteley said: “We are thrilled to be extending our investment activities in Manchester through this exciting hotel development and it’s great to see the excellent progress being made to date.

“The fact that we have committed to developing this hotel with our partners at IPIM is illustrative of the huge potential we see in Manchester, where we are also involved in the management of the Greater Manchester Loan fund and the Northern Powerhouse Fund.”

He added: “In April 2019 Maven was recognised by Beauhurst as the region’s most active funder with 18 investments made in 2018 and the creation of more than 200 jobs.”

Paul Mathison concluded: “Create Construction and Create Developments have brought to the table considerable experience in the delivery of high-volume accommodation and we are so pleased to have reached the topping out stage on this prestigious project in Manchester for Maven, IP Investment Management and Hilton.

“Our company values of ‘integrity’, ‘collaborative’ and ‘easy to do business with’ have allowed us to build a strong relationship with both companies. I hope that we will be working with them in the future on many more quality hotel projects.”
