Prominent businesswoman appointed to Rugby Football League board

A Manchester businesswoman who is speaking at BusinessDesk.com event has been appointed to the board of the Rugby Football League.

Sandy Lindsay, founder and chair of Tangerine Communications and digital apprenticeship programme The Juice Academy has joined the board as non-executive director.

Ms Lindsay, who was awarded the MBE for services to business and young people in 2015, founded the specialist communications agency in Manchester in 2002 and launched The Juice Academy in 2013.

She was appointed to the board alongside chair Simon Johnson and Dr Rimla Akhtar MBE following a recruitment process which involved representatives of all sections of the game – Super League, Championship, League One and the Community Game – and Sport England.

Ms Lindsay said: “The Rugby Football League role ‘found me’ at a time when I was looking to spread my wings into new and exciting sectors and challenges, having bedded down Tangerine’s Employee Ownership.

“The League has been through interesting times of late and there are very exciting growth opportunities to be had, especially with the World Cup on the horizon in 2021.

“I’m very much looking forward also to seeing how I can bring my community and business links into play on behalf of the sport.”

Sandy is joining a panel of experts and business leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing SMEs in the North West.

The event is being held in partnership with independent law firm JMW at their offices in Spinningfields in central Manchester.

The discussion will take a look at the issues, challenges, and opportunities currently facing SMEs as we potentially enter the post-Brexit era.

The panel discussion will take place in front of an invited audience of business leaders and professionals and will last around one hour.

Topics will include the challenges facing SMEs as they look to expand, which sectors are particularly strong at the moment and how the task of launching and growing a business has evolved over the years.

The audience will hear from influential business leaders from different sectors.

Sandy started her marketing career 30 years ago and moved into PR consultancy five years later and launched her own communications consultancy  Tangerine – in 2002.

In 2017, celebrating 15 years in business and fulfilling a launch promise, Sandy put Tangerine into Employee Ownership, creating 60 partners in the business.
