Planners secure final phase for Taylor Wimpey Leigh scheme

The proposed scheme

Avison Young’s planning team has received unanimous approval from Wigan Council’s planning committee for 29 new homes and a retail unit in Leigh, on behalf of its client Taylor Wimpey Manchester.

The application represents the final phase of the Pennington Wharf development on the site of the former Bickershaw Colliery site, which closed in 1992.

The 29 new homes consist of a mix of two-bed apartments, four-bed detached houses, a three-bed detached property and three-bed terraced townhouses.

Situated on the ground floor of the apartment building, the retail store will serve the local community and provide convenience retail for residents of both the new and wider housing development.

The scheme also provides policy-compliant car and cycle parking provision, together with attractive landscaping.

The officers’ report to committee described the proposals as being of high-quality with members of the planning committee praising the design of the scheme.

James Berggren, from Avison Young, said: “We are delighted that the planning proposal received unanimous approval from Wigan Council. This final phase marks an important milestone in the wider scheme, not only providing new homes, but also retail space for local residents.”
