£7m investment to convert Lake District hotel into luxury world-class spa facility
The Swan, Newby Bridge, has secured a £7m investment backed by CBRE Global Investors which will transform the globally-renowned boutique Lake District hotel into a world-class luxury spa resort by Summer 2021.
The investment will fund plans to extend the landmark hotel, with the new-build set to house 30 additional bedrooms.
Interiors will be designed by the celebrated Fiona Parks of Johnstone Park Interiors, renowned for creating inspiring classic and contemporary spaces.
The Swan will preserve the character and heritage of the beautifully converted 17th-century coaching inn, but will revive it with this new development and modern touches.
The investment will also facilitate a luxury spa development, which will feature an expert range of facilities, unparalleled in the Lake District.
Plans include the addition of a hydrotherapy pool, thermal rooms, relaxation areas, and luxurious treatment rooms, offering bespoke and tailored treatments by a team of expert therapists.
The spa will also house a café, serving champagne, cake and other refreshments and be a children-free zone so that guests can enjoy an uninterrupted day of relaxation. The existing swimming pool will remain open and will be family-friendly.
Owner, Yorkshire-based BH Group which recently added The Swan to its impressive hotel portfolio, says the extension and spa will complement The Swan’s current facilities and establish it as the leading spa resort destination in the Lake District.
Recruitment has started to fill 20 full-time and part-time jobs created by the development. An apprenticeship programme is also planned to launch.
James Houlston BH Group managing director, said: “The Swan is an established favourite in the Lakes, this investment really gives us the opportunity to build on its success so it can reach its full potential as a world-class spa resort.
“The proposed extension will really take the hotel to the next level so that we can deliver that ultimate top class, luxury experience.”
Managing director of The Swan, Sarah Gibbs, said: “We can’t wait for the renovations to get under way. We have some incredible plans and I think guests are going to be blown away when we get to reveal it all next year.
“The Lake District is already one of the most popular destinations in the UK and there’s definitely a growing market for a luxury spa resort here, and we’re more than happy to be the ones that can offer this.
“We have a fantastic team here and we are excited to grow it alongside these developments.”
