Residential developer Mulbury has struck a deal with Great Places Housing Group to build 65 new homes in Shaw, Greater Manchester.

The £11m development, which has been granted planning permission by Oldham Council, will revitalise a five-acre former industrial site off Moss Hey Street.

The scheme will provide 34 homes for shared ownership and 31 for affordable rent.

The homes will be a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached properties.

Helen Spencer, Great Places’ director of development, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to create much-needed housing in Shaw.

“The mixed-tenure nature of the site means the development will offer choice for customers, and we expect it to prove very popular.

“As a group, we are actively contributing to tackling the housing crisis and providing affordable quality housing across the North West and Yorkshire.”

Greg Mulligan, co-founder and director at Mulbury, said: “We’re thrilled to have been given the green light to progress this high-quality housing development alongside Great Places Housing Group.

“These vital new homes provide a solution for what had become a local eyesore, and the site’s location next to excellent transport connections, including the Metrolink tram line, will make it a great place to live.

“These new homes are part of our ambitious plan set in 2019 to build 3,000 new homes in the region over the next five years.”

The shared ownership properties will be marketed by Plumlife and will allow buyers to purchase between 35% and 75% with a small rent payable on the un-owned share.

The site was previously occupied by steel stockholder P&D Northern Steels, which has since relocated to Royton.

As part of the development, a new access road will be created off Moss Hey Street.

Mulbury commenced work on site in July 2020, with a completion scheduled for June 2022.
