Urban Village Capital has revealed plans to expand into the health and social care sector with the development of an £8.5m facility in Wigan.

Due to complete in April 2022, The Croft is a purpose-built scheme featuring 66 en-suite rooms, communal facilities including several lounges, dining facilities, cinema, hairdresser, guest rooms for relatives and nurse station.

The site, located in the village of Bickershaw, covers 0.75 acres and has associated parking and gardens.

It is being developed by Urban Village Care – a sister company to Urban Village Capital, focused on building and expanding the provision of care home locations across the UK to meet an increasing demand.

The development will be managed by a specialist senior living operator, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

Over the next two years, Urban Village aims to develop care homes and extra care schemes in partnership with medium sized providers with solid reputations and a local focus.

Urban Village Group chief executive Nick Sellman said: “Figures from the Office for National Statistics indicate that 18 per cent of the population is aged 65 or over, of which almost a third of these people live alone.

“These figures, along with those from Age UK, show there is a real demand for high-quality care home facilities across the country and we can play a significant role in helping meet that demand, with developments like ‘The Croft’.

“We have many years of experience in delivering high quality residential homes and have recruited an experienced care delivery team in order to facilitate this.

“Our care homes, which will be built at various locations across the country, have been carefully designed to ensure those who live there can enjoy a real quality of life and be part of an incredible community.”
